| AD148 - Whitby Abbey |
| These gaunt remains sit like a whale’s
bleached bones above the fishing port of Whitby, and dominate
the town’s East Cliff. The abbey was founded in the 7th
century by Abbess Hilda. No doubt inspired by its atmosphere,
Bram Stoker used the setting of the churchyard nearby in his
famous novel ‘Dracula’. |
