| AD129 - Mount Zion,
Halifax |
| The original Mount Zion Chapel and adjoining
cottage was built in 1773. John Wesley preached here on 22nd
April 1774 and stayed in the cottage, returning again in May
1790 on his last visit to Halifax. The chapel was demolished
and rebuilt in 1815, but the original cottage remains, together
with the sundial on the front of the chapel. My grandfather
was sexton of this chapel during the 1960’s, and my father
enjoys telling us the story of a ghost lady in the graveyard
- which turned out to be the shadow cast by an oil-lamp! |
