| AD127 - Marmion Tower,
North Yorkshire |
| This enigmatic building was the gatehouse
to a 14th century manor house, long gone, and its elaborate
oriel window with its delicate gothic tracery, is evocative
of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It is thought there
may be a link with Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Marmion’
poem. Now owned by English Heritage, it is situated in West
Tansfield, North Yorkshire, and overlooks the River Ure. |
