| AD120 - Halifax Piece
Hall |
| Located in the centre of Halifax, this
Grade 1 listed building is one of the most significant and complete
Georgian buildings remaining in Britain. It was built as a market
place for ‘pieces’ of woollen and worsted cloth
to be sold by the handloom weavers to merchants. The growth
of the Factory System led to a decline in its original use,
and in 1868 it was given to Halifax Corporation and used as
a market. It is now a tourist attraction and used for the promotion
of arts, crafts and entertainment. |
