AD109 - Chateau de Chillon, Switzerland
This grand turreted castle sits on the shores of Lake Geneva near Montreux, joined to the land by a high wooden bridge. It is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. Lord Byron visited the castle in 1816 and wrote his poem ‘The Prisoner of Chillon’, and his supposed ‘graffiti’ on the wall can be still be seen.
