| AD100 - 199 Steps,
Whitby |
| Once you get beyond the arcades and fruit-machines,
Whitby is a great seaside town, with its quaint cobbled streets
and higgledy-piggledy cottages. Captain James Cook served his
apprenticeship in Whitby, and set sail from its harbour in the
famous ‘Endeavour’ which was built here. The 199
steps are at least 600 years old, and lead in a steep climb
from the town to the parish church, with some wonderful views
looking back across the harbour and out to sea. |
